Dodick Laser PhotoLysis System

Dodick Laser
PhotoLysis System

This system is the first laser device to be approved in the United States for the removal of cataracts. We are one of the first eye surgery facilities in the country to have the laser cataract surgery technology. Our doctors are experts in both laser and conventional ultrasound, phacoemulsification cataract surgery. Laser cataract surgery, also called "photolysis" or "laser-phaco", breaks up the cataract with laser energy and the shock waves.

Why we've invested in the Dodick Laser PhotoLysis System:

  • The PhotoLysis System generates ultra-short pulses that are delivered through an optical fiber into a specially designed tip. Laser energy is generated resulting in shock waves from the opening of the probe tip. The shock wave energy is used to break up and remove cataracts.
  • Since there is no heat at the probe, there is no significant risk of thermal damage.
  • With the PhotoLysis System, cataracts can be removed through two extremely small incisions - nearly half the size used for traditional phacoemulsification cataract surgery. As with all surgery, the smaller the incision, the faster the recovery.
  • Laser cataract technology delivers about 1/1000th the energy of conventional ultrasound cataract surgery. This could significantly reduce the risk of damaging the eye's delicate internal structures.
